Ferney Landings, Mahebourg, Mauritius
Ferney Landings is a 2100 hectare eco-tourism and resort community planning project located on the south eastern coast of the island of Mauritius. The site contains a host of spectacular landform features including beaches, waterfront access, and panoramic views of Lions Head Mountain and the Indian Ocean. One Leisure created a comprehensive resort community development master plan which contained a 10 year implementation phasing plan.
Master plan recommendations included the designation of a minimum of 25% of the pristine tropical landscape on the property as a National Park and Preserve Land, the realignment of a major arterial highway link through the site to the east coast of Mauritius and improved access between the airport and Ferney Landings.
The eco-tourism driven program included a strong emphasis on natural and cultural resources of the property and Mauritius as a whole. Elements such as a Nautical Centre, Historical Museum, and a Community Cultural Centre & Theatre were fused with a produce and craft market associated with the local retail shopping district. This synergy of activity formed the social heart for visitor and resident interaction. The final master plan resulted in an improved overall tourism strategy for Mauritius. |
